The Treatment

Back Massage that actually resolves what's bothering you.

What it is

A 30-minute treatment dedicated to the full back — upper, middle, lower, plus shoulders and rhomboid region. Deep-tissue and trigger-point techniques are used to release the specific bands of tension that build between the shoulder blades, along the spinal erectors, and across the lower back.

Who it's for

Anyone with a localised back issue — manual workers with a tight lower back, desk workers with upper-back knots, drivers with stiffness between the shoulder blades, weekend athletes recovering from training, and clients who want "just the back" without time spent elsewhere.

When you need it

When the back is the only place asking for attention. When you can't justify a full hour but the tension has been building for weeks. As a regular maintenance treatment between full-body sessions, or as a quick reset before a heavy weekend.

Why professional matters

The back is one of the largest muscle regions in the body, and rushed work makes it worse, not better. A trained therapist can resolve more in a focused 30 minutes than an untrained pair of hands manages in an hour. Celtic Manor sequencing and Level 2 & 3 qualifications mean the time is spent on the knot, not warming up around it.

What Happens If You Wait

Untreated tension doesn't fade. It compounds.

Back pain is the most-ignored common injury in working adults. People stretch, take painkillers, blame their mattress and carry on — until a single twist puts them out of action for days.

Lower back compensates

A tight upper back forces the lower back to do more. The lower back eventually fails first — usually with a sudden spasm during something ordinary like bending to tie a shoelace.

Sleep is poor, mornings are stiff

Tight back muscles don't let the body relax through the night. Mornings feel worse than evenings, and the cycle continues until something is properly released.

Stretching alone isn't enough

Chronic knots have adhered fibres that won't release with stretching. Hands-on work breaks them down — stretching afterwards keeps them open.

Our Process

A repeatable system — not a one-size massage.

01

Quick scan

We ask where it hurts, where you last felt looser, and whether anything is acute. One minute, then onto the table.

02

Set up

Couch up, face-cradle on, linens warmed. 8–10 minutes from doorbell to ready.

03

Warm & assess

Five minutes of warming effleurage along the full back to identify which bands are tightest.

04

Deep work

20 minutes of targeted deep-tissue, trigger-point and friction work on the bands that need it most.

05

Flush & finish

Lighter drainage strokes to flush the area, plus one or two stretches you can do daily. Pack down while you stay lying.

Why Clients Rebook

Concrete outcomes you'll actually feel.

Walks better, sleeps better

Most clients notice an immediate change in posture and movement within an hour of the treatment, and deeper sleep the same night.

Prevents the full lockout

Regular maintenance stops the back ever reaching the spasm point that costs days off work or a missed event.

Safe deep tissue

Properly trained deep-tissue work is safe and effective. We avoid spinous processes, kidneys and any tender lymphatic regions — and we ask before every increase in pressure.

Best value in the menu

£39 for genuine professional back work — same therapist standards as the £55 hour, just focused on the area that's bothering you.

Fits a working schedule

Lunchtime and early-evening slots specifically designed around 9-to-5 schedules. We're in and out in about 50 minutes door to door.

No commute, no aftermath

No drive home, no parking, no queuing at the spa front desk. You finish, we leave, you stay where you are.

In Depth

What goes into a proper back massage.

A 30-minute back treatment isn't a half-priced hour — it's a different format. Here's how the time is structured and what's actually achievable in the slot.

Areas covered

Full back from the base of the neck to the sacrum: upper trapezius, rhomboids and interscapular region, the full length of the erector spinae either side of the spine, latissimus dorsi, lower back and quadratus lumborum. Glutes are not included in this treatment — book the full body for that.

Techniques used

Swedish warming, deep-tissue compression, trigger-point release, cross-fibre friction on chronic adhesions, and finishing lymphatic drainage strokes. We do not perform spinal manipulation, joint adjustment or chiropractic-style work — those require a different qualification and we refer to one of two local practitioners when appropriate.

Variations of the back massage

Deep-tissue focus for chronic tension, recovery focus for post-training muscle soreness (lighter, more drainage-led), and pregnancy-modified back massage with side-lying positioning from the second trimester. State your focus when booking.

Common patterns we see

Right-side dominant tension in right-handed desk workers. Lower-back tightness in tradespeople and parents of young children. Symmetrical interscapular knots in drivers. Each pattern responds to a slightly different sequence, which we adapt on the day.

Aftercare

Drink water, walk gently within the hour, avoid heavy lifting or intense exercise for the rest of the day. Two simple stretches are recommended on the way out — we keep these short and realistic enough to actually do.
